Anotation:

The project deals with ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism and granitoid magmatism in collisional orogenic zones. Ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic rocks – eclogites, garnet peridotites, gneisses, granulites and various types of granitoids will be investigated in selected terrains including the Western Carpathians, Eastern Alps (Pohorje), Scandinavian Caledonides and Rhodopes. These will serve as case studies of geodynamic evolution in collisional orogens of different age. Major objectives of the project include phase relations of mineral assemblages and thermodynamic (P-T-X) conditions during subduction and exhumation. A special attention will be paid to identification of ultrahigh- pressure phases to elucidate formation of microdiamonds. There will be a possibility to find new occurrences of UHP rocks. Granitoids of the Western Carpathians will be studied to determine their genesis, age and geotectonic setting with emphasis to solve their geodynamic evolution during Variscan orogeny. Detailed study of accessory minerals (monazite, allanite, rutile, ilmenite, apatite, tourmaline, zircon) will be focused on their stability in magmatic, post-magmatic and metamorphic processes, geochronological dating and reconstruction of the P-T-t paths. The project will be carried out using modern and innovative methods and the outputs from the project may expand knowledge on geodynamic evolution of Earth´s lithosphere in collisional orogenic zones.
