Scientific mission:

  • investigation of the structure of the earth crust and lithosphere, of their physical and rheological properties, as well as their tectonic evolution with focus on the Carpatho-Pannonian region. Methods used are: 2D and 3D density and/or integrated modeling with focus on gravimetry and geothermics
  • development of innovative methods for solving the 3D nonlinear inverse problem of gravimetry and potential fields in general
  • interpretation of temporal (time-lapse) gravity changes and surface displacements (deformations) with applications to volcanic hazard assessment and underground gas storage
  • investigation of the structure, tectonics and thermal state of the lithosphere by steady state and transient geothermal modeling approaches with application also in prospection of deep geothermal energy sources
  • investigation of tides, rheological properties of the earth crust, and aperiodic deformations from underground extensometric observations
  • microgravimetric and GPR near surface prospection with archeological and geotechnical applications
