Anotation:

The project deals with metamorphic processes in collisional orogenic zones, mainly ultrahigh-pressure metamoprhism (UHPM). Several types of rocks – eclogites, garnet peridotites, gneisses, granulites and migmatites will be investigated in selected terrains including the Western Carpathians, Eastern Alps (Pohorje), Scandinavian Caledonides and Rhodopes. Major objectives of the project include phase relations of mineral assemblages and thermodynamic (P-T-X) conditions during subduction and exhumation. A special attention will be paid to identification of ultrahigh- pressure phases including microdiamonds. Detailed study of accessory minerals (monazite, zircon, rutile) will be focused on their stability in metamorphic processes with implications for geochronological dating and reconstruction of the P-T-t paths. The project will be carried out using modern and innovative methods and the outputs from the project may expand knowledge on geodynamic evolution of Earth´s lithosphere in collisional orogenic zones.
